India Oman Rejuvenate Relations, To Cooperate on Gaza

The summit between India and Oman, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on 16 December, was a significant event. This marked Sultan Haitham’s third visit to India. The Sultan, awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize in 1999, discussed a wide range of topics with PM Modi, including strategic partnerships, maritime security, and robust multidimensional defense relations.

Oman held important talks on Israel Hamas war with India. India said while humanitarian ceasefire should be ensured, end to terrorism must be eradicated from Gaza. On 16 December, there was India Oman summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sultan of Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in New Delhi!

The large Indian diaspora in Oman has fostered special relations between the two countries, contributing to a trade volume that has doubled since 2020 to $12.39 billion. Key areas of cooperation discussed at the summit were energy security including green energy, digital payment systems, health tourism, disaster management, agriculture, information technology, combating financial terrorism, and ongoing talks about a comprehensive partnership agreement.

The Oman-India Joint Investment Fund, a substantial $300 million 50-50 joint venture, was also a highlight. A joint commemorative postage stamp was launched, and MoUs were signed. Discussions included the humanitarian crisis and terrorism in the context of the Israel-Hamas conflict, space cooperation, and the implementation of UPI for digital infrastructure in Oman, particularly in the IT sector focusing on e-governance and innovation.
