International Coalition Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen Amidst Red Sea Tensions. Indian Ships are there in the Red sea to protect, but no part of coalition in declared way.
In a significant international response, the armed forces of the United States and United Kingdom, with support from the Netherlands, Canada, Bahrain, and Australia, launched joint strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on January 10, 2024. This decisive action follows a series of dangerous and illegal Houthi attacks on commercial vessels traversing the Red Sea, including incidents involving U.S. and UK ships.
The coalition’s move comes on the heels of a joint statement issued on January 3, 2024, by 44 countries, echoing a similar sentiment expressed by the UN Security Council on December 1, 2023. Both statements condemned the Houthi attacks and called for an immediate cessation of such actions, citing threats to lives, global economic stability, and the free flow of commerce in critical regional waterways.
Despite these warnings, Houthi aggressions persisted with multiple missile strikes and the deployment of one-way attack aerial vehicles targeting ships in the Red Sea as recently as January 9, 2024. In response, the UN Security Council passed UNSCR 2722 on January 10, further condemning these attacks and demanding their immediate halt.
The precision strikes conducted by the coalition were designed to disrupt and degrade the Houthis’ capacity to threaten global trade and endanger international mariners. This action represents a united stand for the freedom of navigation, international commerce, and the protection of lives against unlawful and unjust attacks.
The coalition’s objective remains focused on de-escalating tensions and restoring stability in the Red Sea region.
