Tehran, January 15, 2024 – In a significant move to bolster Indo-Iranian relations, External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, met with his Iranian counterpart and other key officials in Tehran today. The visit, characterized by comprehensive discussions on bilateral engagement and pressing global and regional issues, marks a significant step in strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two nations.

Dr. Jaishankar, who is on a diplomatic tour in Iran, conveyed condolences on behalf of India for the recent terrorist attack in Kerman. The visit also witnessed discussions on enhancing India’s involvement in the strategic Chabahar port project and the development of the International North South Transport Corridor.

The ministers expressed their concerns over the escalating violence in West Asia and emphasized the need to prevent further hostilities. They also discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with India reiterating its support for a two-state solution in Palestine.

Notably, the visit comes after Iran’s recent inclusion in the BRICS group, a move strongly advocated by India. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral cooperation, reflecting the strength of their bilateral ties.
