India is concerned with reports of UNRWA Hamas link

May impact fresh humanitarian aid in Gaza, will wait till the report of the UN body comes out

For India it is shocking that some members of UNRWA might be involved in heinous attack on civilians in Israel on October 7, 2023. It is a matter of intense discussion among the think tank and foreign policy establishment as how to respond to such a situation when the members of the humanitarian UN body are involved in terror activities. India has been an important development partner of Palestine supporting two state solution of the Israel Palestinian conflict. India has been extending assistance to Palestinians that goes both the those living in Gaza and West Bank areas.

“We have a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. And in this regard, we are deeply concerned at the allegations that UNRWA staff were involved in October 7 terror attacks,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters on Thursday in response to a question.

But a decision has been taken to wait till the report of investigation on the allegations came out. “We welcome the investigations launched by the United Nations in this regard,” the MEA spokesperson said.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India’s assistant for Palestinians goes both through bilateral ways and also and through the United Nations.
